Transilience: About the authors

Celeste M. Condit is a Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Georgia. Her home field is communication studies, but she was awarded a Study in a Second Discipline Fellowship, which she used to work in a genetics laboratory, to take coursework in biology, and to serve as a Visiting Investigator at the National Institutes of Health. She is a Distinguished Scholar of the National Communication Association and has won that society's Douglas Ehninger Distinguished Rhetorical Scholar Award, its Golden Anniversary Monograph Award, and its Marie Hochmuth Nichols Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Public Address. She has also won the University of Georgia's Creative Research Medal and its William A. Owens Award for research in the social sciences. She has authored or edited five books, and her research has been published in Nature Reviews Genetics, The Journal of the American Medical Association, The American Journal of Medical Genetics, Human Mutation, Public Understanding of Science, Critical Studies in Mass Communication, The Quarterly Journal of Speech, and many other scholarly journals.

Bruce Railsback is a Professor in the Department of Geology of the University of Georgia. He is best known for creating the Earth Scientist's Periodic Table of the Elements and Their Ions, which was one of Discovery Magazine's "Top 100 Science Stories" for 2003 and has since gone on to republication and translation. His research has been published in Nature, Geology, American Mineralogist, Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, Bulletin de la Société Géologique de France, Soil Science, Physical Geography, The Journal of Structural Geology, The Journal of Sedimentary Research, The Journal of Cave and Karst Studies, and several other scholarly journals.
